Every season has a special character and climate that inspires artists to create works that help to connect us through experience and memory to times and places in the past and in the present. That’s why we come across a painted landscape or print and find ourselves to be “taken in” as if we are being ushered through a doorway into the place and time of a special treasured memory.

One of the featured artists of The Mission Motif, Kathleen West, creates many of these worlds of memory for us with her period style block prints. Kathleen recently created a new print that takes us on a journey into a forest and reminds us of the summer hikes we took when we spent a special time in a favorite state or national park. Her “Woodland Pond” print opens the door to those special places of discovery that surprise us all the time in the hidden spaces of nature. Most of us would agree that spending time in such a peaceful natural place renews us, so that when we emerge back into our city world, we can do so with a more tranquil vision for living.
