Our Story - John Benthal, Founder and CEO

My appreciation for timeless design began long before I opened a furniture store.

After serving in the United States Army, I earned a degree in Business Management from the University of Illinois at Chicago. While living in Chicago, I became captivated by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, the work of Louis Sullivan, and the enduring beauty of the Arts and Crafts Movement. I was drawn to its belief that beauty and function belong together, that natural materials should be celebrated, and that exceptional craftsmanship creates objects worthy of being passed from one generation to the next.

When I moved to Atlanta in 2000, I discovered there were very few places where people who shared this philosophy could find authentic Mission style furniture or receive knowledgeable, personalized guidance. I saw an opportunity to create something different.

In 2004, my partner Bob Nelson and I opened the first Mission Motif showroom with a clear vision: offer extraordinary furniture, educate customers about the value of true craftsmanship, and provide the kind of personal service that turns first time visitors into lifelong customers.

Over the years, we have expanded four times, growing from a small boutique into a destination for homeowners throughout the Southeast. Today, we are proud to be an authorized Stickley dealer, a trusted source for Stressless recliners and chairs, and one of Atlanta’s leading providers of custom Amish furniture. Every brand we represent is chosen because it reflects the same commitment to craftsmanship, integrity, and timeless design that inspired us from the beginning.
